Dancing to a World Beat

A 5Rhythms dance workshop
led by Cora Greenhill

Sunday August 9th 2009

‘We don’t have a word for music
in our language.
Music is the same as life.’

Frances Bebey quoted in Breathdance by Cora Greenhill

A day to lose ourselves in dancing to traditional and fusion music from around the world: from African to Asian, Greek to Nordic.

World music is a Western concept, but through the practise of authentic, spontaneous dance we now have the privilege of participating directly in the music of cultures and spiritual traditions that have always accepted altered or ecstatic states through rhythmic movement to be everyone’s birthright. How does music from different cultures affect our dances, and how does dancing affect our sense of identity and how we feel about the world and our place in it?
