Dancing to a World Beat - August 12th -Bakewell

A 5Rhythms™ dance workshop led by Cora Greenhill

A day to ‘lose ourselves’ in dancing to traditional and fusion music with shamanic and spiritual roots from around the world. A workshop where the music and our response to it will be in the foreground. How does music affect our dances, and how does dancing affect our sense of identity and how we feel about the world and our place in it?

World music is a controversial Western concept, but through authentic dance we now have the privilege of directly participating in the music of cultures and spiritual traditions that have always accepted altered or ecstatic states through rhythmic movement to be everyone’s birthright.

There will be space to find and share language for our experience in words in this workshop.

‘We don’t have a word for music
in our language.
Music is the same as life.’
Frances Bebey (African musician) quoted in Breathdance by Cora Greenhill
